In the category news apps, 20 Minutes in August 2018 with 12,230 downloads was clearly ahead of Twitter (7,450 and Blick (4,710). Somewhat behind followed Bluewin E-Mail & News (2,970), SRF News (2,840), 12-App (2,300), Tages-Anzeiger (2,240), Reddit Trending News (2,120) and Le Matin mobile (2,110).
In the E-Commerce/Shopping category, the number of downloads in August 2018 dominated both the Google Play Store and the iOS App Store with slightly different rankings or download numbers, for example Wish, Zalando, Joom, AliExpress, Amazon, tutti.ch, Coop or Migros. These lists could be extended and segmented almost endlessly for the most diverse categories, even according to the sales generated by the providers – but the most important insight is: today, mobile apps belong in every marketing strategy of brands and companies.
Especially for companies in the B2C segment, it is essential today to reach customers directly with their own apps. This is because around 75 percent of all Swiss surfers are now mobile and also occupy a leading international position when it comes to the life of their smartphones. If the professional use of the smartphone or tablet is added to this, the life expectation is further increased. That’s why meaningful apps that offer more than the user gets by just surfing the web on the move also make sense in the B2B segment.
