Ergonomics & health
- Equip your workstation to be ergonomically appropriate. Sitting all day can lead to stiffness and tiredness. If you can, invest in a standing desk. A low-budget variant can be realized with an ironing board. Exercise balls are a healthy alternative to your chair since they exercise your balance and posture. Many more tips concerning your workstation can be found here.
- Drink enough water, this is the best way to prevent headache, stay alert and have naturally beautiful skin. Therefore, always have a bottle with fresh water or unsweetened tea at hand.
- You feel stiff, tired, and uninspired? Go for a walk, even be it only 5 minutes around the block. Your body will thank you and new ideas might follow as a desirable side effect.
- Regularly ventilate the room and let in some fresh air.
Organizational
- Respect your co-workers and be on time!
- Plan some free time between meeting blocks. If you are the organizer of a meeting, finish early (if possible) and gift your colleagues with an unexpected break – maybe even suggest to them to use the time and take a short walk (see the previous tip).
- Test your speaker and mic beforehand.
- If you’re not all alone in a room, mute yourself to reduce noise for your colleagues
Methodical
- Always define a clear agenda and share this in the meeting invitation. Like this, your co-workers can prepare themselves and assess what is required of them.
- As a moderator, time box the meeting and inputs. There is not much more tiring than having to listen to a never-ending discussion that does not concern you.
- Make sure that all are involved in the meeting. If you cannot involve all, ask yourself if really everyone is required to join this meeting and is adding value.
- Longer discussions between few participants shall be addressed at another meeting involving only the people required.
Value
- Prepare yourself by asking yourself what you want to address and take away from the meeting.
- After the meeting record your learnings from the meeting.
- Last but not least: only take part in remote settings if you can either add value or take value out of it. Or both 😊!
